Winter Storm Jonas

Image
Every couple of years we have a storm that comes through like winter storm Jonas did over the weekend. While as a kid, I looked at these storms as an opportunity for a snow day and to go sleigh riding, I now look at them as an opportunity to take some really cool weather photos :-) There are several resources I go to when big storms like this are on the horizon. Two of my favorites are  Weather NJ  and  New York Metro Weather . I love both of these resources to give honest, un-hyped, and accurate information regarding weather systems that are going to impact the Northeast. Rather than stay cooped up in my house during a storm, I love gearing up and getting out in it! While the winter is my least favorite of seasons, I would rather embrace the extremes of this season than let it keep me hunkered down! Maybe this post is a little vain, but I am excited nonetheless... This week, I achieved a couple of social media milestones! I reached over 1,000 followers on instagram and over 800 likes on facebook! When I seriously started taking pictures in 2010, I never would have thought that my hobby, interest and passion would have grown into what it has become. It's pretty amazing to me. I just wanted to take a moment to thank all of my friends, fans, and followers :-) Your support really does mean a lot to me! If your reading this, you probably already follow me on facebook! Follow me on instagram at: @michaelguccionephoto Once again, thank you! I'm looking forward to great things in 2016! Photography by Caroline Morris Photography

And through out my time down here, I've grown to really enjoy a facet of the surfing I never really knew existed: winter surf. All last week I noticed that both Sunday and Monday had potential. I generally keep an eye on  surf forecasts but also check it against wind guidance from weather reports. I've also been fortunate to have some friends in the surf community who have been willing to take me under their wing and show me some amazing spots. I've had the opportunity to photograph some great swells over the last year and a half. And all I can say is this: Monday, January 11th, 2016 was an amazing day. For this swell, I chose to stay local. My backyard is one of the most beautiful beaches and iconic locations on the Jersey Shore. While I've traveled up and down the shore to different locations for different swells, I
