2015 in Review

2015 has been a pretty amazing year for me in so many ways. In 2014 I got married and moved down to Manasquan. It was a time of rapid,  happy,  and exciting changes. In the past year, I've been able to settle in to my home here down the shore with my beautiful wife.

In terms of my photography, what once was just a hobby for an unemployed 20-something has blossomed into a vibrant part-time side business and potential career.

I started the year reaching out to and meeting with others in the wedding photography business who had something I wanted. People were willing to sit and share their stories with me and I listened.

In the meantime, I continued to enjoy my new surroundings down the shore, shooting sunrises and surf whenever I had the opportunity. I spent many early mornings on the jetty along the Manasquan inlet watching the fishing ships heading out to the ocean with the sun coming up through the clouds.

I was also trusted by friends to shoot surf with them at some great wave spots along the Northern half of the Jersey shore.

My wedding season started with a bang in April when I was able to assist Caroline Morris Photography with two weddings on back to back weekends. I was subsequently asked to photograph several more weddings with her through out the rest of the year. In addition, I made contact with a local studio near me in Monmouth County. Altogether, I assisted about a dozen weddings in 2015.

Not to mention, I shot 2 weddings booked on my own: Chris & Caitlyn and Kevin & Ann!

This fall, I set my sights on 2016, beginning to book dates for engagements, portraits and weddings! I am super excited to embrace my next adventures in 2016.

April Update

It's been a really busy couple of weeks for me! I've been away from writing and facebook for longer than usual. Granted, it's been super busy at the day job, but I've also been working hard behind the scenes with my photography! But first, let me back track... A couple of years ago, my wife was a bridesmaid in her friend Megan's wedding. They were going to a bridal expo in Philly and she mentioned that it may be a good idea to tag along to meet some wedding photographers and do some networking. After walking around the expo for a little bit, we came across the booth of Caroline Morris ; A young, up and coming wedding photographer. We struck up a conversation. I don't remember much of what she and I talked about, but I remember thinking that she seemed cool and down to earth. We exchanged information and went on our ways. Danae's Boyd Park Shoot

When Danae and I met up last Thursday to do our shoot, I couldn't believe my eyes when I pulled up next to her car. I looked over and saw a sea of long pastel green hair! Danae is a fashion and makeup blogger. We've known each other for several years having been coworkers at my last job. We've kept in touch since then and have done photo shoots together on several occasions. It's been really cool seeing the progression in her style choices as well as her comfortability behind the camera. Similarly, my skills as a portrait photographer have increased drastically since our first shoot.  For this shoot, we decided to meet at Boyd Park in New Brunswick which runs along the Raritan River. I had never been there before but when I arrived, I knew this would be a great place to shoot with lots of awesome backdrops and cool colors and textures.  Not to mention that Danae absolutely brought it with her hair, fierce looks, and killer outfit! First Week of 2015!

2015 is just about a week old and there've already been many opportunities for photos. It's been a great start to the year. I don't consider myself a meteorologist, but I've been following the weather patterns and surf reports. It's definitely helped me be in the right place at the right time! I didn't wake up (or stay up for that matter) to watch the first sunrise of the new year. But I did photograph the second sunrise of the new year. It was a pretty special morning. The light reflecting off the clouds before the sun popped over the horizon was really amazing. And my new camera has the ability to pick up colors and textures at lower lights that my old camera just couldn't develop. I don't think having a better camera makes you a better photographer, but it will help make a good shot even better.  Warm air moved through the area over the weekend accompanying some rain and wind. This generated the first swell of the year for surfers. May
