April Swells

Image
I love the mornings where I wake up on four hours of sleep and stumble out to the beach. On Tuesday April 19th, I woke up in the hopes of catching the sunrise and maybe some surf if the forecast actually held true. I was treated to a double feature. The sunrise was spectacular and some of Jersey's best were in the water on some beautiful back-lit head high barrels. Below are a little sampling of the photos I was able to capture. CUPCAKES!

Image
I love branching out into different kinds of photography. My favorite subjects have historically been nature, landscapes, people, events, weddings, etc... Over the last couple weeks, I've had the opportunity to try something new...food photography. More specifically, CUPCAKE PHOTOGRAPHY! My friend Jenn has begun to sell her amazingly delicious cupcakes and asked me if I'd be willing to take some photographs for her. I said yes, and before I knew it, I was turning my dining room into a makeshift studio. Without lighting stands and clips, you have to get a little creative.  The best thing about photographing cupcakes is getting to eat them after :-) And check out my friend Jenn's cupcakes at  Dentist's Daydream .

Florida Family Weekend!

Image
I think my Grandma had a lot of courage and foresight. Back in the 70's my Grandpa Anthony bought a house that he planned to retire to for him and my Grandma Marie. The house was a little two bedroom ranch house just a short walk from the ocean. This was back when any land west of I-95 was nothing but lemon and orange groves. As it turned out, my Grandpa would die of heart disease long before he would get to enjoy the fruits of his labors. Instead of coming back up north to Westchester where she raised both my mom and aunt, she decided to stay in Florida. When I was a kid, we would take trips down to Florida to visit Grandma. I really loved getting to spend time with her, but as soon as we said hello and dropped our bags, I made a full sprint up to the beach! I would spend hours in the ocean on my boogie board getting rocked by waves. And by night, we would eat all the amazing food my grandma cooked and hang together in the living room watching movies. As time passed, more an...

Winter Storm Jonas

Image
Every couple of years we have a storm that comes through like winter storm Jonas did over the weekend. While as a kid, I looked at these storms as an opportunity for a snow day and to go sleigh riding, I now look at them as an opportunity to take some really cool weather photos :-) There are several resources I go to when big storms like this are on the horizon. Two of my favorites are  Weather NJ  and  New York Metro Weather . I love both of these resources to give honest, un-hyped, and accurate information regarding weather systems that are going to impact the Northeast. Rather than stay cooped up in my house during a storm, I love gearing up and getting out in it! While the winter is my least favorite of seasons, I would rather embrace the extremes of this season than let it keep me hunkered down! As the snow was coming down heavily Saturday, I took a couple walks during the storm and made one trek up to the beach. The wind was WILD. True to the forecast, the w...
